The Elba Insect Hotel offers shelter for a variety of insects as each floor is designed to attract a different group.
The “penthouse” holds hollow stems that are ideal for solitary bees to nest in, and below that is compartment filled with pinecones. Smaller insects will seek refuge within the scales of the cones or in the gaps between individual cones.
The green compartment is a hibernation area for butterflies, and the next floor down is specially designed for ladybirds and lacewings. The ground floor has holes of different sizes to provide nesting sites for other beneficial, pest-controlling insects such as harmless solitary wasps.
Hang the Elba Insect Hotel in a sheltered, sunny and mostly sheltered place with lots of flowering plants in the area.
